- Daphne has previously been an investigative journalist in the main continuity in the series The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show and The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries, as well as in the direct-to-video film Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island. She also showed an interest in documenting a mystery in Scooby-Doo and the Monster of Mexico.
- Daphne's show "Daphne Blake's Mysterious Mysteries" on The Knitting Channel is reminiscent of the "Haunted America" segment from "Coast to Coast with Daphne Blake" on the Americana network, which kicked off the events of Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island.
- Fred being Daphne's cameraman was also seen in the main continuity in Lights...Camera...Monster, Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island and Scooby-Doo and the Monster of Mexico.
- Daphne and Fred's constantly bickering dynamic was also showcased during their youth in A Pup Named Scooby-Doo.

- Scooby's speech is explained as a result of cybernatic enhancements created by Velma that stimulated the language center in his brain. However, unlike the later subjects, Scooby's verbal skills are no better than a human toddler's. Another explanation for his ability to speak was shown in the continuity of Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, where it was explained that all animals capable of speech were the descendants of the Anunnaki.

Cultural references[]
- Blazing Man is a parody of Burning Man.
- Among the Blazing Man attendees are a woman wearing a blue trenchcoat and a mohawk of blue feathers accompanied by a grey dog wearing a green bandana and a matching green scarf with a yellow D, referencing Blue Falcon and Dynomutt, respectively.
- Another attendee is wearing a large, tan headdress made of feathers reminiscent of Hawkgirl's cowl.
- There is also a cat wearing an amulet around its neck, a possible reference to Simone Lenoir.
- Mr. Colton and Mr. Barry are a nod to Jon Colton Barry, who J.M. DeMatteis collaborated with on the TV series Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!
- Project Elysium is a nod to the Elysium Fields of Greek Myth. Project Elysium was meant to remove all negative impulses from humankind, while the Elysium Fields is the Afterlife for the righteous and innocent.
- Daphne compares The Four to Adolph Hitler, a German dictator and one of the major antagonistic figures of World War 2.
- Shaggy uses the term "sheeple", which means willfully ignorant, to describe the passive servants of the revised Project Elysium. The term dates back to 1950 and was inspired by the novel Animal Farm.
